Cheonan has many diverse travel destinations, and this time I visited Minaritgil Mural Village, a great place for a simple walk.
Minaritgil Mural Village was created around Wonseongcheon Stream in Dongnam-gu, Cheonan.
It is said that in the past, people lived in harmony with water dropworts (minari) around the stream here.
The lush water dropworts disappeared as the stream was covered, and the alleyways were painted with murals, turning it into a tourist destination.
The mural alley tour starts from the Jungang-dong Community Center, and you can follow the Minaritgil alley tour sign.
There is no separate parking lot, so you can use the parking lot around Wonseongcheon Stream or the nearby Jungang Market.
As you enter the narrow alleyway, the walls that seem like they will collapse at any moment are filled with murals.
Due to the characteristics of the neighborhood, there are many old houses, and the walls of the houses have become canvases with various paintings on them.
The Minaritgil alley murals were painted by many people, and it has already been more than 10 years since the mural work began in 2012.
Looking at the photos, the appearance before and after the murals were painted is clearly different.
The old walls have brightened, and the dark alleys have been transformed into bright spaces.
Some parts seemed to be under construction.
Structures were being erected and barriers were installed, covering some of the murals, and the structures looked precarious, perhaps due to being neglected for a long time.
Since residents live there and people come and go, it seems that safety should be a top priority.
Some of the murals depict Cheonan's past.
You can see the past 모습, such as the 모습 of the Joseon Dynasty king visiting Onyanghaenggung Palace, soldiers and spectators during the king's visit, and a bird's-eye view of the restoration of Hwachukgwan in 1872.
This is a mural depicting Yeongnamnu Pavilion.
Yeongnamnu Pavilion was a pavilion used as the gate tower of Hwachukgwan during the Joseon Dynasty.
It is the only existing building of Hwachukgwan, a 행궁 in Cheonan, and was located in the area of Jungang Elementary School, but has now been moved to Cheonan Samgeori Park.
You can also see 풍속화 depicting the 모습 of the Jungang Market during the Joseon Dynasty.
The old murals look very dirty.
Murals also fade and walls crack over time, and it has been more than 10 years since the mural alley was created, so it is understandable.
In the mural alley, there are not only murals but also trick art.
Persimmons are hanging on the persimmon tree, but it seems that only a few persimmons are left on the top after picking all the persimmons below, leaving them as food for magpies.
There are photo zones in the alley with several forks.
Balloons floating in the blue sky give bright energy to the somewhat desolate alley.
At the end of the alley on the left in the photo, there is a house, so you have to turn back, and the alley on the right leads to another alley.
There are many types of murals in Minaritgil Mural Village, but murals like this that make you feel happy make you feel more 안정적인.
The houses in this alley seem really old.
The shape of the windows and roofs are very different from today's modern buildings, but the murals hide the old 느낌.
Let's go to the Jungang Market across the street~ The Jungang Market appears in the mural.
The Jungang Market is a market close to the mural alley, and it is directly connected to the Jungang Market just by crossing the road.
I felt it would be a shame to just look around the mural alley, so I also looked around the Jungang Market.
Cheonan Jungang Market is quite busy with customers.
There are stores on both sides, and in the middle row, there are food stalls where you can sit and eat.
Snacks were good for snacks or a light meal, and there were also foods that could be 술안주, such as chicken feet and족발, so there were quite a few older people having a drink at the 포장마차.
The delicious bread smell from the bakery made it impossible to just pass by.
Bread in the market can be purchased at a much lower price than famous bakery stores, and it tastes good too.
I picked out various breads such as sausage bread that children like, croquettes that my wife likes, and soboro bread that I like, and I felt proud to buy them at a low price.
The fruit store was also crowded with customers.
I saw a lot of tangerines in winter, and there were plenty of delicious fruits such as apples, pears, persimmons, and tomatoes.
In addition, there are countless stores such as fish stores, dried fish stores, side dish stores, clothing stores, and shoe stores, so it is good for 장보기.
If I had been with my wife, I would have gone with both hands full of groceries, but this time I visited the market alone, so I lightly bought only bread and returned.
As I slowly looked around from Minaritgil Mural Alley to Jungang Market, it felt like I could hear the stories of people living.
In the mural alley, there were stories of an old town, and in the market, there were friendly stories of people.
I looked around from the mural alley to the Jungang Market, but if parking is not easy, you can park in the Cheonan Jungang Market public parking lot and walk.
