A Sweet Day at Geosan Bee Land

Places to Visit in Geosan County
A Sweet Day Traveling to the World of Bees
Last year, I visited a place without much expectation, but I was pleasantly surprised by the sights and experiences it offered.
Returning to Geosan Bee Land with a mindset of 'It should be similar,' all those thoughts vanished the moment I stepped through the entrance.
Located in a quiet rural village in Sarimyeon, Geosan County, Geosan Bee Land has a rather special background. It opened in 2019 after acquiring the closed Bokwang Elementary School's Hwakyok branch, bringing life back to classrooms that had been silent.
This initiative gained momentum when it was selected as a leading project for regional happiness by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Regional Development Committee in 2015, and it has since become a representative experiential destination for children and families visiting Geosan.
While the past was beautiful, the newly transformed present has elevated the quality of food, sights, and activities centered around bees. The first and second floors are filled with spaces dedicated to children.
The bee exhibition and experiential spaces have been completely renovated, and the indoor and outdoor play facilities have been significantly improved. The café and amenities have also become much more pleasant, with an expansion of virtual reality (VR) experience content that caught particular attention.
The VR experience of flying through a flower garden from a bee's perspective amazed both children and adults alike. However, it was a bit disappointing that the VR experience area operates on a paid basis.
At Geosan Bee Land, visitors can observe live bee ecosystems and learn firsthand how important the beekeeping industry is to our food supply and natural environment. In an era where the decline in bee populations has become a serious environmental issue, what better education could there be for children?
The rigid contents of textbooks come to life here. The outdoor spaces for children to play have also noticeably improved. While children laugh and play in the upgraded facilities, adults can relax in the café.
Among the outdoor play areas is a wish tree that has been part of the village community for 500 years. If you have a wish you'd like to see come true by 2026, climbing up to the wish tree is also recommended.
With a natural blend of education, experience, and relaxation, it seems hard to find a more complete family outing destination than this.
Was the breeze from nature always this refreshing and clear? I enjoyed the spring of Geosan to the fullest, forgetting about the suffocating urban life for a while.
Among countless tourist spots, Geosan Bee Land has become a place worth revisiting, even after having been there once. If you haven't been yet, I highly recommend it as a weekend getaway filled with the sweet scent of honey.
