A Weekend Visit to Cheongnamdae

I visited Cheongnamdae over the weekend. Known as the presidential villa, Cheongnamdae offers beautiful views of the Daecheong Lake, along with well-maintained hiking trails and walking paths, making it a popular destination for many.
The site features various attractions, including the main presidential villa and the Presidential Memorial Hall, appealing to visitors of all ages.
Upon arrival at the entrance, I was able to purchase tickets at the information center. There was a parking lot conveniently located right in front.
The ticket price was 6,000 KRW for adults, and parking is free. If you're a resident of Chungcheong Province, you can get a 1,000 KRW discount, so remember to bring your ID!
The first place I visited was the Cheongnamdae Memorial Hall. As I carefully read the exhibits and descriptions, I realized that Cheongnamdae is not just a villa but a historically significant site. I could indirectly experience the atmosphere of the era by viewing records of past presidents.
After leaving the memorial hall and walking a bit, I arrived at the main presidential villa. This space has remained unchanged since it opened to the public in 2003, allowing visitors to see and feel the ambiance of that time.
I also took a moment to imagine the presence of the presidents who once stayed in this space.
Behind the main building, there was a quiet fish pond, which was reportedly used as an ice skating rink in winter. Although it was too cold to stroll around leisurely, I can imagine that the atmosphere would be even better in the warmer spring.
Near the fish pond is the Presidential Memorial Hall, which displays works related to the major achievements of each president. An AI robot provided explanations about the exhibits, allowing for a deeper understanding.
In the basement, there is a presidential experience hall where visitors can take photos at designated spots. During my visit, many people were enjoying their time taking pictures.
After viewing the exhibits, I stopped by the café within the memorial hall. It was delightful to sip coffee while looking out at the scenery. The interior was quiet and cozy, making it a perfect place to relax, and they also offered desserts for a light snack.
I also visited a gallery space called the 'Shade House.' This area serves as an exhibition space and is one of the best spots to view Daecheong Lake. Sitting on the chairs outside, the view of the lake was truly beautiful. Daecheong Lake, one of the largest artificial lakes in Korea, harmonizes perfectly with the pristine nature surrounding it, providing a healing experience.
Lastly, I visited the Memorial Hall of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, where I encountered various materials and exhibits about the establishment of the provisional government and the activities of independence activists. It was a meaningful time to see such an important space at Cheongnamdae.
The atmosphere inside the exhibition hall was quiet and solemn, and reading the explanatory panels left me feeling deeply moved.
Cheongnamdae is not just a tourist destination; it is a space where history, nature, and tranquility come together. Thanks to the well-maintained paths and friendly guidance, I was able to enjoy the visit comfortably, and I thought about returning with my family next time. I highly recommend a visit to Cheongnamdae for those who wish to enjoy history, nature, and relaxation.
