Today, I visited the 'Myeoncheon Eupseong Small Library,' which was created by remodeling the old Myeoncheon Township Office building.
This place serves as a gathering spot for local residents and a resting place for tourists.
The old township office, located within the Myeoncheon Eupseong, was once the center of local administration for many years.
However, after the government office relocated, this space was at risk of being neglected. Thanks to the goals of 'urban regeneration' and 'cultural enjoyment,' it has gained new vitality.
The building's structure and the unique atmosphere of modern architecture have been preserved as much as possible, harmonizing with the historical landscape of Myeoncheon Eupseong. The once rigid administrative space has been transformed into a cultural hub filled with warm wooden tones and cozy bookshelves, making it a place where anyone would want to linger.
Now, let's head to the Myeoncheon Eupseong Small Library located on the second floor.
This library is somewhat different from a typical public library. It serves not just as a place to borrow 'stored books,' but as a platform where people and stories come together.
For residents, it has become a 'village living room,' and for the elders, it is a familiar space that has transformed into a beloved library. Here, community members engage in club activities and document the village's history, fostering a sense of community.
For tourists visiting Myeoncheon Eupseong, the library serves as an excellent landmark. It is a place to explore historical documents about the town or to take a moment to relax and soak in the local atmosphere.
Especially, the cultural course linked with nearby art galleries and independent bookstores has gained immense popularity among the younger generation, coinciding with the 'New-tro' trend.
Although the library is not large, it has a well-curated selection of books. A dedicated corner featuring materials related to Myeoncheon's history showcases its unique identity.
The library is also well-equipped with a book search area for convenience.

They can climb up the stairs or settle into the cozy nook below, sinking into soft bean bags while letting their imaginations soar.

It feels much cozier than a famous book café, inviting visitors to stay longer with its homely charm.
