Exploring Janghang City Exploration Station

Today, I would like to introduce the Janghang City Exploration Station, located in Janghang-eup, Seocheon-gun.
Also known as 'Janghang 1931', this complex cultural space is a representative tourist destination of Seocheon-gun, blending history, culture, and relaxation.
Address: 27 Janghang-ro 161beon-gil, Janghang-eup, Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do
Opening Hours: 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM (Closed on Mondays)
Janghang City Exploration Station retains traces of its past as a train station while offering various facilities such as exhibition halls, cafes, and observation decks, making it a great place to enjoy with family and loved ones.
From June 1 to June 30, 2026, an exhibition will be held, so I would like to share information about the exhibition along with the station visit.
Upon entering the Janghang City Exploration Station, you will find a 'Traveler's Lounge' that provides tourism information and a resting space for visitors.
On the second floor of the Traveler's Lounge, a special exhibition titled The History of Picture Books Around the World is currently taking place.
This exhibition showcases the flow of picture books from modern to contemporary times, allowing visitors to encounter stories embedded in different eras and cultures through various works from around the world.
It offers an educational and interesting experience for children, while also evoking nostalgia for adults.
I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the world of picture books after a long time.
The innovative ideas proposed by Chungcheongnam-do will proudly be nominated for the prestigious 2026 Central Excellent Proposal award in South Korea.
We appreciate your interest!
During June 2026, a special exhibition will be held on the second floor of Janghang City Exploration Station, featuring works from masters of modern Korean art such as Lee Ufan and Kim Chang-yeol, alongside contemporary young artists.
This exhibition will showcase the flow of Korean art that transcends generations and eras.
Participating artists include Lee Ufan, Kim Chang-yeol, Jung Chang-seop, Yoon Myung-ro, Kim Tae-ho, Kwak Hoon, and Kwak Deok-jun, who present works exploring deep themes of material, existence, memory, and nature.
Additionally, contemporary artists such as Jung Hae-min, Chae On, Jeon Eun-sook, Kim Hyung-soo, and Jin Hwan-min will exhibit sensory and experimental works based on digital images, material experiments, and personal experiences.
Jin Hwan-min's works, 'Blue Glaze Bubble Photo Jar' and 'Blue Glaze Bubble Moon Jar', reinterpret the form of traditional pottery in a modern context.
He applies bubble-like patterns to the surface of the jars using the blue glaze technique, encapsulating both classical beauty and experimental sensibility.
Cha Min-young's work, 'Bag', explores the boundary between memory and oblivion through everyday objects.
Rather than being a simple possession, the bag serves as a repository of personal experiences and traces, functioning as a medium that holds both memories we wish to keep and those we unconsciously let go.
The artist visualizes the tension between the memories we cherish and the forgetfulness we experience through the object of the bag, prompting viewers to reflect on the layers of memory in their own lives.
When appreciating contemporary art, it is important to approach the pieces with an open mind rather than seeking definitive answers.
Recording thoughts that arise during the viewing or discussing them with others can lead to diverse interpretations.
Even expressions that feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable can reveal new insights after multiple encounters.
Ultimately, contemporary art is best embraced with an open mind, as the process of experiencing the questions and emotions the works evoke is at the heart of appreciation.
On the first floor of the Traveler's Lounge, a special exhibition titled 'Pop-up Book Journey by Train and Boat' is currently being held.
In this vibrant three-dimensional picture book, visitors can encounter various stories themed around trains and boats.
For children, it becomes a play that stimulates imagination, while for adults, it evokes nostalgic memories.
Pop-up books are a special form of book that features illustrations or structures that spring up when opened, providing both visual enjoyment and spatial imagination to readers.
Beyond simple reading, they offer a fun experience that is effective for children's education and are widely used in art exhibitions and as souvenirs.
The current exhibition at Janghang City Exploration Station provides a unique experience akin to embarking on an adventure within the pages of a book.
It is an exhibition that offers creative play for children and emotional resonance for adults.
