This time, I visited the Hyeonchungsa Shrine, the symbol of Asan, a place of loyalty, and the resting place of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, revered as one of the greatest heroes in our history.
Among the exhibits, the 'Admiral Yi Sun-sin Memorial Hall' deeply highlights the general's life and achievements through cutting-edge display techniques and artifacts.
As you enter the grounds of Hyeonchungsa, a modern building harmoniously blends with the surrounding mountains.
This is the Admiral Yi Sun-sin Memorial Hall, which contains all records of the great hero.
The exterior of the memorial hall is designed to be low to the ground so as not to disrupt the surrounding scenery, creating a humble yet majestic atmosphere.
The entrance, finished with gray stone, features the inscription 'Admiral Yi Sun-sin Memorial Hall,' inviting visitors to enter the historical site with a solemn heart.
This memorial hall not only presents the historical background of Hyeonchungsa but also fulfills its role as a specialized national museum, exhibiting precious artifacts such as the 'Nanjung Diary' and 'Janggeom' since its opening in 2011.
Impressively, it introduces Admiral Yi Sun-sin not merely as a legendary hero but as a compassionate father who honored his parents and cared for his family, as well as an exceptional leader who communicated effectively with his peers.
As you read the information boards slowly, you will resonate with the statement, "I hope this exhibition can remember the great achievements and spirit, providing a special resonance to today's members of society."
Now, having prepared your heart, let's step into the exhibition halls filled with the general's spirit.
In the center of the exhibition hall, a dignified portrait of Admiral Yi Sun-sin greets visitors.
Dressed in a red military uniform and gazing straight ahead, the general's eyes convey unwavering spirit and loyalty to the nation.
To the right of the portrait is a display documenting one of the most painful periods of his life, the 'First Campaign in White.'
During his time as the commander of the Josenbo in Hamgyeong Province in 1587, despite his achievements in the Battle of Noktundo, he faced wrongful accusations and the threat of execution.
Yet, even in that desperate situation, Admiral Yi persevered, fighting against the Jurchens and ultimately receiving a pardon.
By showcasing not only the glorious records of victory but also such periods of hardship, visitors gain a deeper understanding of the general's human struggles and his indomitable spirit.
The 'Nanjung Diary' goes beyond mere war records; it captures the human anguish felt on the battlefield, the profound filial piety towards his mother, and the love he held for his country and people.
Reading the information boards, one can truly appreciate the valuable historical insights into the East Asian political landscape and military conflicts of that time.
The memorial hall is not just a place to observe preserved history; it serves as a living educational space where the spirit of the timeless hero is communicated in today's language.
As we walk along the serene trail leading from the memorial hall to the shrine, let us fully enjoy the peaceful scenery that the general fought so hard to protect.
