While exploring Goesan, I discovered the Goeun Native Fish Experience Center, located at 31 Sogari 2-gil, Goesan-eup, Goesan-gun. This newly opened center, which opened on July 23, 2024, features a unique concept of a waterless aquarium that integrates digital immersive technology.
At first, I was puzzled by the term "waterless aquarium." I wondered how an aquarium could exist without water. However, upon visiting, I found it to be a fascinating and exciting space created with cutting-edge digital technology.
Unlike traditional aquariums that house live fish, this center allows visitors to experience the world of freshwater fish vividly, making it a more engaging visit.
The Goeun Native Fish Experience Center is divided into two main areas: the Freshwater Fish Experience Hall (Hall 1) and the Children's Playground (Hall 2). Each space features unique experiential elements that keep visitors entertained.
First, I explored Hall 1, the Freshwater Fish Experience Hall, which consists of several zones. The first zone is a media gallery that presents an understanding of native fish in the Goeun River.
The Goeun River flows through Goesan, and this area allows visitors to learn about various native freshwater fish species. The media art depicting the river was truly beautiful and enchanting.
The second zone is the Exploration Area for native fish. Here, visitors can learn about the fish species inhabiting the Goeun River through graphic panels and digital experiences. Although the fish are not real, the digital quality is so high that it appears as if the fish are swimming right in front of you, making it adorable to see children reaching out to touch them.
The third zone is the Learning Area for native fish, where children can color fish templates, and once scanned, their colored fish appear on the wall in a video. Seeing their colored fish swimming on screen was a magical experience for the kids. This interactive experience seems to enhance the educational value while being fun.
Lastly, there is an IMAX-style high-definition video room where visitors can watch native fish on a large screen. The underwater world displayed on the big screen is so vivid that it feels like you are actually underwater. The clarity of the visuals allows for detailed views of each fish's scales.
I recommend this place to those looking for must-visit spots in Goesan not just for sightseeing but for the numerous interactive experiences available. It is especially ideal for families with young children, providing both educational and entertaining opportunities.
Hall 2, the Children's Playground, is designed specifically for kids. It includes a fish library where they can read books related to fish, and a quiz corner where they can test their knowledge with fun quizzes.
