As the weather warms up, the camping season begins.
With spring deepening, camping gear becomes simpler, and there are more outdoor activities to enjoy.
Many people are visiting Mokdo along the Dalcheon River in Goesan.
Mokdo, located in the Bujeong-myeon area of Goesan County, is where the Dalcheon River flows through and meets the Eumseongcheon River, widening the waterway.
As a tributary of the Namhan River, it features clear waters and beautiful surroundings.
From 1910 to 1959, it served as an important trade route for salt boats coming from Mapo-naru and docking at Mokgye-naru.
Today, a wide river and riverside area have formed, attracting visitors for swimming in the summer and camping from spring to fall.
Last Sunday afternoon, even with many groups packing up, about ten teams were still camping.
Along the waterway are Mokdo Beach and the Mokdo Riverside Park, with the Bujeong-myeon Community Center and Mokdo Market in between.
Campers enjoy visiting Mokdo Market to experience the traditional market atmosphere.
Behind the beach stands Gongsu Mountain, while in front is Sirobong Peak at an elevation of 221 meters.
Surrounded by ridges, the calm waters of the Dalgang provide a soothing experience.
The Mokdo Beach area is generally knee-deep for adults, making it suitable for swimming and fishing in the summer.
As of April, the water was still too cold for swimming.
Amidst the shallow waters, aquatic plants are sprouting, and the river is clear.
As spring deepens, aquatic plants along the riverside are growing just like the grass in the fields.
Mokdo Beach features a deck path leading from Mokdo Riverside Park.
The path alternates with roads and includes a wide deck observation area around the beach.
With a solid foundation of tall and short posts, the deck stretches comfortably for a pleasant walk.
It's a great place for a light stroll of about 2.6 km to the riverside park.
Wildflowers are blooming between the sandy and gravel areas.
White and yellow flowers of the flower-bud plant are visible, along with occasional spring chickweed and dandelions.
Mokdo Beach has facilities resembling a management office, with restrooms available in both directions for the convenience of campers.
Guidelines for safe camping are also provided, including prohibitions on littering, vehicle operation, and pet leash requirements.
Additionally, it is emphasized that only Goesan district trash bags should be used.
When camping, stories about Mokdo also emerge.
The history of Mokdo Naru from the 1910s to the present is well-documented.
Mokdo Beach is located where the historic Mokdo Naru existed during the Joseon Dynasty, situated between the Gugeung Rock and the Lying Dragon Rock along the Dallae River.
With a deck path, one can get close to these landmarks.
Mokdo Beach connects to Mokdo Sports Park across the Mokdo Bridge.
Cherry blossoms bloom along the riverside, leading to the village and Mokdo Market.
Descriptions of the riverside and the village entrance evoke a sense of nostalgia with names like Yomak Village and Mulgatmal Village.
Mokdo Beach is the largest in the country, equipped with restrooms and water supply facilities, stretching 400 meters of sandy beach and pine forest.
The village and Mokdo Market are directly connected at the entrance of the sports park.
The Mokdo Market, developed alongside Mokdo Naru in the 1910s, is quiet with many shops closed on Sundays.
With around 70 shops, a five-day market is held on the 4th and 9th of every month.
Mainly selling agricultural and forestry products, it includes Mokdo Mill, Mokdo Fishing, butchers, and restaurants serving spicy fish stew.
Shops like fishing supply stores and butcher shops are convenient for campers.
Finally, in front of the Bujeong-myeon Community Center, there is a yellow sailboat reminiscent of the old Mokdo Naru.
It symbolizes the village of Dalcheon in Bujeong-myeon, Goesan County.
After visiting the yellow sailboat, I returned to Mokdo Beach.
I took a stroll around the pebble beach, deck path, and sports park, concluding my visit to Mokdo Market.
Though I didn't camp, I thoroughly enjoyed the camping atmosphere by the riverside.
