Exploring Jeju's Culinary Delights

It was one of those days when I craved meat. I contacted a friend, and as luck would have it, they were free for dinner, so we quickly made plans. Both of us love LA galbi, and I had heard good things about a new restaurant in Jeju's Yeondong district specializing in black pork, which prompted us to check it out.
1. Hwanggeumdonka Yeondong LA Galbi
Address: 4, Gukgiro 2-gil, Jeju City
Business Hours: Daily 11:30 AM - 10:00 PM / Break Time 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM / Closed on Sundays
Menu: LA Galbi 25,000 KRW, Marinated Galbi 19,000 KRW
As soon as we passed through the entrance, the smell of grilled meat wafted through the air. The interior was stylish yet comfortably inviting, and the laughter of diners confirmed that this was a popular spot. In a corner, there was a play area for children, which seemed quite useful for families. While it didn’t apply to us, I thought it would be great to bring my niece next time.
Next to our table was a high chair already set up, showcasing the restaurant's thoughtful service. I realized that such attention to detail is what turns first-time visitors into regulars.
The moment the highly anticipated LA galbi arrived at our table, the sizzling sound on the grill was music to my ears. The sight of the meat amidst the smoke made my heart race. The beautifully grilled galbi was a sight to behold, with the fat melting slowly as it cooked. A plate of sundae (Korean blood sausage) accompanied the galbi, making for a satisfying meal.
After a few snips with the scissors, the meat was cut into bite-sized pieces, a sign of its freshness. The juicy glistening from the cut surface was enticing. Finally, I couldn’t hold back anymore and popped a piece into my mouth. The tenderness hit me first, followed by the sweet flavor of the marinade. The rich, savory oil coated my palate with every bite.
I wrapped a piece of meat in a lettuce leaf with a bit of rice and took a big bite. The mix of flavors created a harmonious blend unique to this black pork restaurant in Jeju.
Among the side dishes, the pickled onions stood out, their vinegar-soaked crunch refreshing my palate. I found them so addictive that I ended up refilling my portion. A bite of the young radish kimchi had a juicy burst of flavor that awakened my taste buds, cutting through the richness of the meat.
The green onion kimchi was perfectly balanced in crunchiness and spiciness. Each bite released a burst of onion juice, filling my mouth with a delightful aroma. I could easily finish a bowl of rice just with this dish.
The seaweed salad was surprisingly delicious, with a chewy texture and a sweet, tangy dressing that complemented the meal perfectly. The crunchy cucumber pickles were refreshing and had a spicy kick that stimulated my taste buds, making me think they would shine even more in the summer.
As we wrapped up our meal, I couldn’t resist ordering the marinated galbi to try. The moment it hit the grill, a sweet aroma filled the air as the marinade caramelized beautifully. I realized that the moment just before it was about to burn was when it would taste the best.
When I picked up a piece of the perfectly grilled marinated galbi, I was amazed by the balance of sweet and salty flavors. It had a completely different charm compared to the LA galbi. I wrapped a piece in a perilla leaf, and the herbal aroma blended wonderfully with the sweet marinade, creating a unique flavor experience.
After settling the bill and stepping outside, I felt pleasantly full. I made a promise with my friend to come back again. It was a delightful evening at the black pork restaurant in Jeju.
