Explore the Underwater Observatory in Ulleungdo: A Perfect Family Destination
If you're looking for a family travel destination to enjoy with three generations during Family Month, I recommend Cheonbu in Ulleungdo.
As you drive along the circular road towards the northern part of the island, you'll see a tall building resembling a white lighthouse, standing proudly above the sea.
This is the Cheonbu Underwater Observatory, the first and only underwater viewing facility in South Korea, which opened in July 2014.
Cross the 107-meter-long bridge that spans the sea, and you'll feel the thrill of your journey beginning with the sound of waves crashing beneath your feet.
Descending 6 meters vertically via a circular staircase (or elevator) from the main building, you'll immediately notice a change in the air temperature.
This is not an aquarium-like confined space; what lies beyond the observation area is the raw ecosystem of Ulleungdo's pristine waters.
You can enjoy a 360-degree view through the windows as you stroll around.
✔ Schools of fish like mackerel, sea bream, and red sea bream swim by.
✔ Pufferfish and needlefish peek out from the rock crevices.
✔ Sea urchins and abalone can be spotted among the seaweed.
✔ Snails cling to the large windows, captivating your attention.
The changing currents and light create different scenes every moment, making it hard to leave the windows.

When you return to the first floor, you can use telescopes to admire the beautiful surroundings, including the famous Elephant Rock and the majestic Songgot Mountain.
