As the warm spring air settles in, there are moments when we need a quiet space amidst our busy lives.

How wonderful would it be to find a place in the city where we can experience such tranquility?

Today, I would like to introduce Baekyangsa Temple, located in Seongan-dong, Jung-gu, Ulsan. It is an ideal spot for a light visit and is highly recommended for a temple tour in Ulsan.

Baekyangsa Temple

Location: 67 Baekyang-ro, Jung-gu, Ulsan

Parking: On-site parking or a large parking lot across the entrance

Bus: Take routes 217, 418, 428, Jung-gu 54, or Jung-gu 55

Baekyangsa is situated at the foot of Hamwol Mountain, offering a relatively quiet atmosphere while being close to the city.

Located near the residential area of Seongan-dong, it is easily accessible. As soon as you enter the temple grounds, the city noise fades away, creating a distinctly serene environment.

The existence of such a space within the city itself is quite impressive.

Although it is not a large or extravagant tourist destination, the calm and peaceful environment is well-maintained here.

The path leading from the temple entrance follows the natural terrain, making it easy to walk without feeling overwhelmed, and it is suitable for leisurely exploration.

On the day I visited, I noticed several visitors with children enjoying the space, highlighting that Baekyangsa is a familiar place for Ulsan citizens.

I visited in March, when the red plum blossoms were blooming throughout the temple grounds.

Rather than standing out with vibrant colors, these flowers blended harmoniously with the traditional temple architecture, creating a subtle ambiance.

These flowers signal the arrival of spring after a long winter, and their natural integration into the surroundings was quite striking. Currently, in mid-April, double cherry blossoms are blooming, showcasing another beautiful spring scene.

The ability to feel a completely different atmosphere at the same location depending on the season is one of the temple's charms.

At the center of Baekyangsa is the Daeungjeon Hall, characterized by its harmonious combination of traditional painting and wooden structure, providing a sense of stability.

Surrounding it are various halls such as Cheongseonggak, Sanshingak, and Myeongbujeon. The layout preserves the natural mountain terrain, allowing for a seamless flow between spaces, which feels less artificial, with each area existing independently yet harmoniously.

Especially, the path leading to Sanshingak is surrounded by lush trees, making it a suitable short walking route.

There are spots along the way where you can overlook Ulsan city, providing a refreshing perspective during your walk. Although the incline may seem a bit steep for a light hike, the scenic views make the ascent enjoyable.

Another highlight of Baekyangsa is its stunning views.

Situated on a mountainside, it offers a panoramic view of Ulsan city, with a clear cityscape during the day and a completely different atmosphere as the lights turn on at dusk.

Familiar city scenery presents a new impression when viewed from a height, which is intriguing.

Overall, Baekyangsa is more of a space to linger and spend time rather than a quick tourist stop.

Just sitting on a bench or taking a leisurely stroll around the grounds can provide a sense of relaxation.

It is a perfect place to visit when you need to clear your mind or take a short break. I often find comfort here when my thoughts are tangled.

If you are looking for a quiet place to spend time without traveling far from Ulsan city, Baekyangsa in Seongan-dong is definitely worth a visit.

With its changing scenery through the seasons, from spring's red plum and double cherry blossoms to summer's greenery and the tranquility of autumn and winter, each season offers a unique charm.

Therefore, this place is not just a one-time visit but a space that invites you back with each changing season.

If you are seeking a peaceful healing space in Ulsan, I highly recommend visiting Baekyangsa Temple.
