Exploring the Daegu Catholic University Museum

The Daegu Catholic University Museum, located in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, is more than just a university museum.
Recently remodeled, it now features digital exhibition content and a modern exhibition environment, transforming it into a high-quality cultural space.
The museum is open on weekdays from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with last admission at 4 PM. It is closed on weekends and holidays, so it's advisable to check in advance before visiting.
Group visits require prior reservation.
The museum's history dates back to 1977, starting as a small exhibition space at the Bongdeok-dong campus. It later moved to the Hayang campus, where it developed into a fully-fledged museum with its own building.
The current museum building consists of one basement level and three floors above ground, housing a wide range of materials, including university historical documents, as well as archaeological, folklore, and Catholic cultural artifacts.
Upon entering the museum, visitors will find the school's history exhibition on the first floor. This space showcases the history of the institution from its days as St. Augustine's Seminary through to Hyosung Women's University and the present Daegu Catholic University.
Exhibits include early establishment materials, photographs, textbooks, and records, providing insights not only into the university's history but also into the broader context of modern educational history in the region.
On the second and third floors, visitors can explore various donated artifacts and archaeological materials. Items donated by the Daegu Archdiocese and other donors are displayed, including pottery, ceramics, and metal artifacts related to traditional Korean culture, organized by era.
Tracing the flow of artifacts from the Bronze Age to the Joseon Dynasty, visitors can gain a comprehensive view of the history of Korean ceramics, including the museum's extensive collection of bronze mirrors, which can be viewed alongside multimedia presentations.
Additionally, the museum regularly hosts various special and themed exhibitions. Recent exhibitions have focused on local culture, history, and traditional lifestyles, serving as a cultural space for local residents.
If you plan to visit Gyeongsan, I recommend taking some time to stop by the Daegu Catholic University Museum instead of just passing through.
