Today, I would like to introduce the Haman Museum, where you can systematically learn about the rich history of Haman and the folk culture of our ancestors.
Located within Haman Elementary School, this museum is a great place to study history with children and enjoy a light outing.
The outdoor exhibition features traditional items such as the water mill, stone lanterns, and traditional wooden totems.
Children will likely find the water mill fascinating, as it is something rarely seen in modern society.
The Haman Folk Museum is uniquely situated inside Haman Elementary School. When I visited, I was a bit surprised to find the entrance closed.
Fortunately, when I called the number posted on the door, a friendly staff member quickly came out to open it for me.
If you happen to find the door closed during your visit, don't panic; just call the number provided.
There is an informative sign that provides an overview of the March 1st Movement in Haman. While some towns continue to hold independence commemorative events, it's remarkable to see how many local areas participated in the independence movement.
The museum is well-organized across two floors. The first floor features cozy household items and a traditional kitchen, where folk play equipment can also be rented.
On the second floor, you can find old farming tools and historical materials related to the school. Each wall on both floors is adorned with stories of Haman's history and artifacts, detailing the contributions of our ancestors during difficult times, making it a great place for children to learn about history.
The Haman Folk Museum was established to systematically collect and preserve traditional cultural heritage that is at risk of being lost in the rapid modernization process. It serves as a hands-on learning space for children to understand and cherish the roots of our history.
Currently, the museum operates four permanent exhibition halls and a beautiful outdoor exhibition space. They plan to continue collecting and enhancing their exhibits, which is exciting.
The first place I visited was the exhibition hall for everyday artifacts. It showcased a variety of folk items, from beautiful traditional clothing to intricate rice cake molds and neat ceremonial dishes.
While these items are now rare, it was delightful to see everyday objects like brass bowls that I used to see at my grandmother's house, prompting reflections on the value of forgotten things.
The school materials exhibition hall allowed visitors to compare past and present educational environments. It displayed faded photographs of old schools, thick graduation albums, and even the nostalgic sound of school bells.
Additionally, valuable collections such as calligraphy and books owned by Haman Elementary School alumnus Choi Nak-hyun were on display, showcasing exceptional items.
Shall we explore the agricultural tools exhibition hall filled with warm memories? Upon entering, you can easily see how our ancestors lived in harmony with the land.
Detailed explanations were provided about the farming activities and tools used throughout the four seasons. Each time I recognized familiar tools that I had seen at my grandmother's house, fond memories would resurface, bringing a smile to my face.
Seeing farming tools like the carrying frame and plow that I had only read about in books made the children's eyes widen in amazement.
One corner of the exhibition hall features a traditional kitchen with a fireplace, showcasing the wisdom of our ancestors who managed cooking and heating simultaneously.
It reminded me of my childhood memories of carefully adding wood and newspaper to keep the fire going, making it a perfect spot to share stories with my children about how things were when I was young.
The Haman Folk Museum is a special place where you can closely encounter the valuable traces of our ancestors' lives. It’s not just about sightseeing; you can genuinely feel the wisdom of those who came before us, making it an excellent destination for family outings and children's education.
Gyeongsangnam-do Haman is a region rich in history and traditional culture, once the heart of the ancient Gaya Kingdom. How about taking a trip to Haman this weekend to experience the breath of ancient Gaya?
