Exploring Ulsan Library: A Community Hub for Knowledge and Culture

Hello, I am Junseo Oh from the 10th Ulsan Nuri Blog Reporter Group.
Recently, small libraries, reading rooms, and genre-specific libraries have become common in neighborhoods. Notably, a new small library opened on the first floor of Ulsan City Hall, making the concept of a 'library' feel even closer to us.
Today, I would like to summarize the Ulsan Library, which opened in 2018 after the long-standing wish of Ulsan citizens and is now approaching its 10th anniversary.
The Ulsan Library aims to be a hub of knowledge and information, serving as a comprehensive cultural and educational space and supporting regional public libraries.
Location: 140 Kkotdaenari-ro, Nam-gu, Ulsan
Operating Hours: Weekdays | General: 09:00-18:00, Comprehensive Materials Room: 09:00-21:00; Weekends | 09:00-18:00 (Closed every Monday)
Parking: Paid parking available.
Ulsan Library has a unique exterior design inspired by the whale, the symbol of Ulsan, making a strong impression as if a giant whale is swimming through a sea of knowledge.
From the first to the third floor, it is one of the largest municipal libraries in the country, featuring a cultural and educational space that connects the library with a park. The grand wall bookshelf and book tree in the lobby elevate the library's status as a treasure trove of knowledge.
On the first floor, there is a children's room designed for young readers with low bookshelves and a cozy layout, as well as a digital materials room where users can search for information, watch DVDs, and write documents. Additionally, there is an auditorium for lectures, performances, and exhibitions, creating a space for children's dreams to grow and for users to enjoy cultural activities.
On the second floor, visitors can relax with a cup of tea or a meal at the book café and restaurant. The third floor houses a comprehensive materials room, featuring a vast collection of books, periodicals, and multicultural resources.
The Ulsan Library has clear themes on each floor, designed with user convenience in mind. Membership is available for residents registered in Ulsan or those working or studying in the area, allowing for book borrowing.
For more information on membership registration, users can visit the library with their ID after signing up on the official website to receive their membership card immediately.
Each person can borrow up to 5 books for a maximum of 15 days, including the borrowing date. Late returns may result in a suspension of borrowing privileges, so please be mindful of the due dates.
For those wishing to return books outside of operating hours, an unattended borrowing/return machine is available, and users can reserve books or request desired titles through the official website.
With such a wonderful library nearby, there is no need to purchase books anymore; you can comfortably choose and read a book whenever you like.
Since the beginning of this year, Ulsan Library has been implementing various programs for users, including a service that refunds book costs through Ulsan Pay when returning books purchased from local bookstores within four weeks, reading clubs, humanities academies, cultural events, and children's educational programs.
This year, events focused on promoting reading culture and unique programs exclusive to Ulsan Library are also planned.
The Ulsan Library, which has transformed from a space for reading and studying into a place for direct interaction and cultural enjoyment, awaits you as a sanctuary of wisdom when you need a moment of respite in your busy life. We encourage you to visit!
We hope you find a life-changing book at Ulsan Library today.
