Reading Points Program in Gyeonggi Province

[Reporter: Na Ye-ji]
Earn points through various reading activities such as borrowing books, purchasing, and writing reviews,
which can be used at local bookstores.
The more you read,
the more points you accumulate for purchasing books.
Have you heard about this?
In Gyeonggi Province,
to promote lifelong reading among residents,
a system called ‘Reading Points with 1,000 Books’ allows residents to earn points through reading activities,
which can be used at local bookstores.
In 2026, the accumulation criteria and participation methods were slightly revised,
so I decided to participate myself.
The ‘Reading Points with 1,000 Books’ program
aims for residents to read 1,000 books throughout their lives.
This program allows you to earn points through activities like reading, recording, and sharing.
Anyone over the age of 14 in Gyeonggi Province can participate,
and you can join by linking your account with the Gyeonggi Provincial Library and the program's website.
You can also choose the region where you want to use your points.
Even if your registered address and card usage area are different,
you can set your primary usage area, which is a significant advantage.
There are seven main ways to accumulate reading points:
1. Purchase verification
2. Borrowing verification
3. Journal writing
4. Review writing
5. Education certification
6. Reading events
7. Reading challenges
Additionally, you can earn extra points through referrals and achieving reading goals.
The accumulated points can be used to purchase books, making this program quite meaningful.
Notably, the accumulation limit has increased from 30,000 points in 2025 to 60,000 points this year,
allowing for broader participation.
For purchase verification, you can earn points for up to two physical books purchased within the month.
Online purchases from bookstores nationwide, including Gyeonggi Province, are recognized.
For borrowing verification, up to four books borrowed from libraries in Gyeonggi Province are recognized.
You can earn points for writing journals and reviews, as well as participating in educational programs and events.
Overall, the ‘Reading Points with 1,000 Books’ program encourages reading and supports local bookstores,
making it a valuable initiative for residents who want to maintain a consistent reading habit.
