Spring is arriving at Gwanryongsa Temple, a millennium-old temple located beneath Hwa Wang Mountain. This temple, representing Changnyeong, boasts a long history and various cultural assets. Let's guide you through the journey and viewing route.

Located deep in the mountains, reaching the temple requires some effort. The lower village has a vibrant commercial area, making it a good spot to take a break. However, as you enter the main section, the roads narrow, so be cautious while driving.

The image shows the parking lot at the bottom, which is quite a distance from the main hall. If you have companions, it’s recommended to drop them off at the top and then park here.

The sky is clear and the air is fresh. Although the journey was somewhat challenging, I believe I didn’t feel stressed due to the pristine nature of this place and the energy radiating from Hwa Wang Mountain and Gwanryongsa Temple.

Typically, the viewing route at Gwanryongsa Temple starts from the Ilju Gate, followed by the Cheonwangmun Gate, Daeungjeon Hall, Yaksa-jeon, Seokjo Yerae (stone Buddha), and Yongseondae. The space seen in the photo is the Cheonwangmun Gate.

To the left of Cheonwangmun Gate is the bell tower, and to the right is the main hall. The structure is unique; as you ascend the stairs, the view opens up, allowing you to feel the special atmosphere of this millennium-old temple.

Gwanryongsa can be considered a cultural heritage site in its entirety. The Daeungjeon Hall is designated as Treasure No. 212 and is said to have been rebuilt during the reign of King Gwanghaegun of Joseon.

Visitors, including worshippers, continuously come to pray at the temple. One side opens up to a beautiful view, and looking ahead from the center of Daeungjeon, a picturesque landscape unfolds.

Behind Daeungjeon, there is a walking path leading towards Yongseondae, lined with pine trees that add to the refreshing atmosphere. This is a popular course for many who enjoy leisurely strolls.

This area is a meditation space for monks, and entry is restricted for the general public. Gwanryongsa has historically been a place of practice, aiming for the advancement and enlightenment of Buddhism in Korea.

We have arrived at Yaksa-jeon, another cultural asset designated as a treasure, along with a three-story stone pagoda, which is a must-see.

As a tip, I recommend taking a moment to enjoy the scenery here, as the view of the temple along with the mountains and sky is truly magnificent.

It is said that Wonhyo named this temple Gwanryongsa after witnessing nine dragons ascending during a hundred-day prayer. This remarkable story and the energy of the place are enough to draw people here.

There’s also a rumor that one wish is granted, which seems to be a major reason for visiting Gwanryongsa.

At Hamwoldang, you can purchase light offerings, and it would be nice to enjoy a refreshing drink from the dragon's face.

In this era where we need rest and slowness, it’s no wonder that temple tours are becoming popular. I hope you take your time exploring every corner of the temple, including Daeungjeon, Yaksa-jeon, Chilseonggak, and Saryeonggak, and absorb the energy of this millennium-old temple.
