Experience art in a cool, emotional space this summer at the Jeonbuk Bank Art Museum in Gunsan.
Located at 268 Daehak-ro, Gunsan, Jeonbuk, the JB Cultural Space is a complex cultural venue created by Jeonbuk Bank to offer diverse cultural experiences to local residents. With its clean and modern exterior, the interior is filled with enriching cultural programs and exhibitions, providing a comfortable retreat for travelers visiting Gunsan.
Opened earlier this year, the Jeonbuk Bank Art Museum within the JB Cultural Space offers an attractive opportunity to encounter high-quality artworks without any cost. Currently, it hosts the Unseen European Masterpieces Exhibition, showcasing original works by renowned artists like Picasso, Chagall, and Dalí. This exhibition allows visitors to observe the brushstrokes and textures of masterpieces that they may have only seen in textbooks or media.
Admission is free, and the museum is open from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM (last entry at 6:00 PM). It is closed every Sunday and Monday, with guided tours available from Tuesday to Saturday at 2 PM and 4 PM.
Upon entering the first exhibition hall, I was captivated by the open space connected to a café, allowing visitors to enjoy coffee while appreciating the art. The Unseen European Masterpieces Exhibition expands our view of 19th to 20th-century modern art in Paris, exploring the roots and depths of Korean modern art.
In the first exhibition hall, I found works by Picasso, Braque, Matisse, Chagall, Dalí, and others. One of my personal favorites was Salvador Dalí’s Vase, with its vibrant colors and uniquely transformed flower shapes that highlighted Dalí's surrealistic imagination within a traditional still life composition.
After exploring the first hall, I moved to the second exhibition hall, which showcased works by Joan Miró. His use of free forms, lines, and colors created a poetic and cosmic individuality that was truly immersive.
On the second floor, there are multipurpose halls, a garden salon, an atelier, and music practice rooms, all available for free reservation. This space is not just for viewing exhibitions but serves as an open area for local residents and visitors to relax and utilize.
