Walking the Path Among Trumpet Vines and Hydrangeas

The season transitions from spring to summer. The body, accustomed to walking since spring, refuses to stop despite the seasonal changes. As long as one chooses appropriate times in the morning or afternoon to walk, it remains manageable even as the weather gets warmer.
In Iksan, there are several walking trails, and among them, the Sinheung Park Trail is a pleasant course to walk during this time. It offers a beautiful combination of forest paths and waterfront trails.
Sinheung Park in Iksan has been developed into a park in a designated water source protection area, opened to the public. Within the park, a garden has been created in the forest, providing a friendly resting spot for citizens. The walking path connects to the embankment of the Sinheung Reservoir, completing the Sinheung Park Trail.
The length of the Sinheung Park Trail is 2.1 km, designed in a circular shape. It takes about 40 minutes to walk around at a leisurely pace. Besides the trail, the park features various flower gardens, including the Flower Wind Garden and facilities for a children's forest experience, making it a family-friendly relaxation space.
Recently, a pedestrian bridge connecting to the nearby Central Sports Park has been installed, and parking facilities at the park entrance have been improved, enhancing accessibility.
Upon entering Sinheung Park, you will find a small square known as the Rainbow Garden, where a nighttime aurora laser show takes place. Every Friday to Sunday evening, two shows (8:30 PM to 8:50 PM and 9:00 PM to 9:20 PM) utilize laser technology to create an aurora display.
On the path leading down from the Rainbow Garden towards the Sinheung Reservoir, you will find the Pink Muhly Garden, which is currently being prepared to showcase its beauty in the fall. In the meantime, the surrounding improved varieties of Lagerstroemia, such as Pink Velvet and Red Crape Myrtle, are shining brightly.
To the left of the Pink Muhly Garden is the path to the children's forest experience, while the right leads to the Flower Wind Garden, where the hydrangea garden is emerging with blooming flowers. For a while, it will be the season of hydrangeas.
As you pass through the hydrangea garden and walk along the forest path, the Cosmos Path follows. While Cosmos flowers are traditionally thought to bloom in autumn, they can now be seen from summer through fall.
After passing the Cosmos Path, you will arrive at the Flower Wind Garden, which is set on the slope of a low hill. This garden is adorned with different flowers each season, making it beautiful at any time of the year.
In the Flower Wind Garden, the poppies that brightened the spring are preparing to leave. The poppies, which turned one side of the garden red in spring, stand tall, unwilling to let go of their passion until the very end.
During summer, the presence of trumpet vines becomes more pronounced. The trumpet vine trees lined up next to each other are preparing to bloom. Soon, you will be able to walk along the path of trumpet vines.
As you exit the Flower Wind Garden and walk along the waterfront path, turning back allows you to see the garden you just passed in a new light. The view, as if floating on water, feels different from when you were close. Although it is the same place, the atmosphere changes. If you saw the flowers earlier, here you can experience the beauty of the garden.
The Sinheung Park Trail harmonizes forest paths and waterfront paths, with one half offering views of the Sinheung Reservoir. Walking along the path while gazing at the expanses of water brings a sense of refreshment to the heart. There seems to be something in water that comforts our minds.
The waterfront path extends quite a distance, occupying about half of the entire trail. At some points, the trail enters the area of the Sinheung Water Treatment Plant, which is open only for safety reasons from 8 AM to 10 PM. This area includes the embankment path, where you can visualize the entire trail from that viewpoint.
At the end of the embankment path, the trail continues into the forest path, which features tall pine trees. This section also has paths where you can walk barefoot, allowing you to feel the energy of the earth.
As you walk along the forest path, playground facilities appear. This is the children's forest experience area, designed as a space for experiential education and free play, a dream playground for children installed in the forest.
The Rainbow Net is classified as an educational facility with specific usage rules. On weekdays from 10 AM to 3 PM, it is available for institutions (kindergartens, daycare centers), while from 3 PM to 5 PM, individuals can use it. On Saturdays and Sundays, anyone can use it after making a reservation on the Iksan City website.
The free play facilities can be used freely, featuring various structures for forest experience slides, allowing children to enjoy play while feeling the energy of the forest. Surrounding the play facilities, there are family resting spots, with various shapes that blend well with the forest, stimulating children's curiosity.
In the vicinity of the children's forest experience area, a hydrangea garden has been created, making it an excellent spot for family flower outings. Passing the children's forest experience area leads you back to where you started.
As you walk around the Sinheung Park Trail, it offers a pleasant path to enjoy the trumpet vines and hydrangeas, serving as a comfortable resting place for families to enjoy outings together.
