Spring Outing Recommendation: Seongnam Water Garden

Spring has truly arrived.
It's time to shed those heavy coats and enjoy the season in light clothing.
Today, I want to introduce a hidden gem in Seongnam City,
a very special place showcasing the splendid transformation of a neglected space.
The 'Seongnam Water Garden' is a perfect spot to take a stroll with family or loved ones while enjoying the spring breeze.
Let's take a moment to look at the history of Seongnam Water Garden.
In front of the music hall, there is an exhibition board detailing the history of this place.
It reveals that this area was a 'sewage treatment plant' that had been abandoned for about 30 years since it ceased operations in the early 1990s.
Thanks to the efforts of Seongnam City, it has been reborn as a multi-cultural space for citizens, set to open in June 2025.
Without completely erasing the traces of its past, it beautifully integrates art and nature, showcasing the essence of upcycling.
As the sign says, this garden has transformed from a place of silence to one filled with the laughter of citizens.
The 'Dumul-gil' path connects to the former sewage treatment plant and is a highlight of the Water Garden.
It is beautifully themed, ensuring there's never a dull moment while walking.
Here are five themes of the healing Dumul-gil walking path.
The forest playground is a space where children can play joyfully in nature.
Parents can relax while watching their children play.
The 'Reading Square,' resembling a red phone booth, and comfortable bean bag chairs are very popular among kids.
Set amidst a dense pine forest, the children's playground is a unique healing space that combines nature and books.
It reopened on March 6, with benches equipped with large umbrellas for shade.
The Flower Palace yard is a space where different flowers bloom each season, creating a palace-like display.
Even though the flowers are not yet in bloom, this area will feature tulips and daffodils in spring and hydrangeas in summer.
Families can enjoy picnics in the picnic yard and Flower Palace yard.
Imagine relaxing under the warm spring sun!
The signature feature here is the circular swing bench, providing a cozy, private resting spot.
At the Dambit Rest Area, moon-shaped sculptures are beautiful during the day and even more stunning at night with lighting.
For safety, the Dumul-gil is open from 6 AM to 9 PM.
The music hall, a unique performance venue, retains parts of the former sewage treatment facility's concrete structure.
Every week, free performances for residents take place here.
The high ceiling and exposed concrete create a unique acoustic charm.
With the delightful narration and conducting of Maestro Geum Nan-sae, the performances offer an unmatched depth of resonance.
For those interested in outdoor weddings, the Sky Yard on the rooftop of the music hall and café transforms into a venue for free outdoor weddings on special days.
After visiting the Seongnam Water Garden, don't miss the cherry blossoms blooming nearby.
Located next to the Water Garden is the 'Tancheon Walking Path,' part of Seongnam's famous cherry blossom spots.
This weekend, head to the Seongnam Water Garden for a delightful outing!
