Exploring the Sejong City Library: A Cultural Hub

Today, I visited the Sejong City Library, the starting point for the daily lives and culture of Sejong citizens.
These days, libraries have evolved beyond just being places to read and borrow books. They play a significant role in fostering a space where people of all generations can come together to learn and enjoy diverse cultures.
Opened in 2021, the library is a landmark of Sejong City, featuring four stories above ground and one basement level.
Near the library parking lot, there is also a playground, making it a great spot to take a break or enjoy a light stroll with children while using the library.
Upon entering the library, the first thing you'll encounter is the exhibition space on the basement level. This area showcases a variety of themes, paintings, folk art, and illustrations from local artists and citizens, allowing for free viewing of artistic expressions.
On the day of my visit, the second 'Onsaemiro Exhibition' was in full swing. 'Onsaemiro' translates to 'as it is, without splitting,' a pure Korean term that expresses the inherent beauty of nature and pure moments through art.
The moments of encountering nature, flowers, and people through someone else's perspective provided a serene respite from daily life. Following the 'Onsaemiro Exhibition,' even more diverse exhibitions are planned for the second half of the year, so it might be a good idea to mark those dates on your calendar.
As for the upcoming exhibitions at the Sejong City Library in the second half of 2026:
1st Exhibition: 'Doran Doran Canvas (Appropriate Distance, Warm Gaze)' - July 21 to August 9
2nd Exhibition: 'Kwon*Seok (Pets are Family)' - August 11 to August 30
3rd Exhibition: 'Garam Folk Art Association (Happiness Colored in Folk Art)' - September 1 to September 20
4th Exhibition: 'Kim*Eun, Kim*Jin (Together with God)' - September 22 to October 11
5th Exhibition: 'Kim*Ri (Introducing My Friend, Nureongi)' - October 13 to November 1
6th Exhibition: 'Miran (Stay, Be Colored)' - November 24 to December 13
If you head to the right of the exhibition space, you'll discover 'Reading Sejong,' a special area where citizens recommend books that have deeply moved them and share reviews and meaningful quotes.
This space is well-stocked with various genres of books, perfect for sharing with neighbors and suitable for reading with children.
Every Wednesday, the library offers a special benefit of doubling the borrowing limit, allowing families to freely take home books they’ve wanted to read without any pressure.
The comprehensive materials room features high ceilings and an open feel, overflowing with knowledge and stories from various fields. It’s a perfect space to read and gather knowledge.
The youth space 'Ido' is designated for those aged 12 to 16, named after King Sejong's birth name, where they can express their thoughts and creativity freely.
There’s also a children's workshop called 'Moya,' where kids can become artists and enjoy various creative activities.
Additionally, the XR experience zone offers an immersive virtual experience of Sejong City's 'Space Geodesy Observation Center,' allowing everyone to easily and enjoyably understand complex space geodesy technologies through virtual reality.
The library also has club rooms for discussion or creating media content, which can be reserved through the library's website.
The children's reading room is designed to help kids easily connect with books and unleash their imagination, featuring a cozy and safe environment.
Finally, I hope the information shared today enriches your visits to the Sejong City Library. Have a pleasant day filled with the scent of books!
